Zhongnan Transmission Machinery Works (ZTMW hereafter), affiliated to the Aviation Industries of China, is a large state-owned enterprise engaged in producing aeroengine gears and gearboxes. It employs 2900 staff and covers an area of 420,000m2 and has a fixed assets of 235 million Yuan (RMB). Since the 1960s, ZTMW has developed and manufactured gears and other transmission components for up to 30 types of piston engines, turboprop, turbo-shaft, turbojet and turbofan engines . At early 1980s, ZTMW actively developed civil products with its military technique superiority, which have now formed a complete variety as follows: 1. The transmissions series and torque converters have been awarded on many occasions gold medals and Excellent Products prizes at the State, provincial or ministerial levels. They are well received by customers due to their reliable performance and high quality, and hold a leading place in domestic market by making up 50% of its share. Furthermore, the vehicles on which our components have been installed are exported to foreign countries with a good feedback from the users. Marine gearboxes, which are the mainstay of ZTMW, featuring in small size, new structure, smooth running, safety and reliability, are the products to export to the countries in Southeast Asia with annual sales to more than one million USD. Planetary reducers with complex minor tooth-difference are the newly developed products at international level. Because of their large transmission ratio, wide torque range and small size, they have been extensively used in metallurgical industry, mine, cement manufacturing, chemical industry, food machinery and cableways. ZTMW obtained ISO9001 certificate in 1994 and 1999 respectively and its products are well guaranteed. Founded in 1965, ZTMW has a history of 30 gears of experience in production and there are a large number of technical personnel in all specialties, among them 400 are granted with intermediate or senior professional titles. ZTMW has a strong capability in research and development. It is equipped with world-class machine tools in gear manufacturing and inspection, which include a complete set of American Gleason gear making machines (including the newly imported Phoenix grinding machine), Germany Zeiss 3-coordinate measuring machine and horizontal machining center from Taiwan. They enable the Works to fabricate spur, helical, herringbone, spiral bevel, internal helical, dual gears as well as worm pairs and spline shafts, etc. Cylindrical gears of module 1-15mm with accuracy reaching the national standard Grade 4, and bevel gears of module 1-17mm with accuracy of Grade 5 can be met. And now a large amount of investment has been put into technical reform, resulting in the set up of the production lines of spur & bevel gears, heat & surface treatment and housing manufacturing.
